EXAM STRESS: DYNAMICS OF SERUM LEVELS OF THE HORMONES

The impact of psycho emotional stress factors causing change in the parameters of the functional activity of regulatory physiological systems, including adaptive changes in hormone and biogenic amines secretion. We have investigated the effect of exam stress as stress factor inducing regulatory responses of the endocrine system of the students (n = 93). Studies carried out for 1 hour before the exam and for 1 hour after. Serum levels of hormones and biogenic amines (cortisol, epinephrine, thyroid stimulating hormone, insulin-like growth factor, leptin, serotonin, histamine) were examined by ELISA using a photometer «Opsys Thermolabsystems», washer and a set of MAB.

The study found a significant decrease in serum levels of cortisol and TSH in subjects before and after the test below normal values ​​(p <0.05). In 65.5% of the students showed an increase in the concentration of serotonin in the blood before the exam, while maintaining high values ​​after the test (46.2%). The steady increase in the content of histamine in the blood during exam stress remained within the reliability of frequency analysis - in 65.6% of cases, the measurements after the exam. Epinephrine levels before the examination was also significantly higher in 53.8% of students. After the examination the number of cases increases serum epinephrine value reached 80.6%, of which justified the conclusion that the reaction in most cases was of a delayed nature. The marked increase in the concentration of IGF-1 and lower levels of leptin in the blood during the session were not statistically significant. It should be added that the minimum value of statistically significant cases of rapid development (before the exam) and stability (after the exam) of all these changes in hormonal status was 53.8%, which corresponds in our study the percentage of vegetative stress reactions with the sustainable growth of the index Kerdo.

Thus, the response of the endocrine regulatory system during exams included in the majority of cases the reduction in serum levels of TSH and cortisol and increased epinephrine, serotonin and histamine, with the changes did not return to normative values ​​in post-exam period. Changing the levels of a number of indicators to the examinations in comparison with those in the control period should be characterized as having a state of stress of students already in the pre-exam period. According to the identified reactions legitimately conclude that the «chronic» nature of the functional hormonal responses in examination stress in our study.
